What comes next?

This question has been asked many times already on Yahoo Answers, but I would like to ask it again, and request only serious answers. You may think I am asking this so that I can try to make money from the answers; you will have to take my word that I am not. I am fascinated by the evolution of the internet in the last decade. As far as I am concerned, the internet revolution started with the advent of Yahoo and then Google. From there we have seen MySpace create a world of online communities, the only real succesful clone being Facebook. YouTube introduced the world to the idea of video blogging, and made every single user famous in their own right. This years TIME Person of the Year is you, and me, and every other human being, because websites like MySpace, Facebook and YouTube have made the average Joe an internet celebrity.

What are your thoughts? Where will the internet take us next?

What comes next?

really a good question to think on .. ?

maybe next year u wont come out of ur home for more then a month coz u might be on a world tour on internet .. !!

or maybe ur children r on a tour to an international soccer match upstairs in there rooms on there desks ...

or may be there will be an internet connection backout as pak is on attack on indian websites .. !

What comes next?

What comes next?

What comes next?

With the advent of wireless and the plug-into the internet by all of the portable devices -- now the user is free to roam about the world completely cut loose from the cables and wires and desktops of the past !! This is going to see far more people BACK into the eye-to-eye where the social order of the most recent past has been one where people have been more or less reclused away with their internet services while the rest of the world clicked on outside ---and THIS is a good thing (thanks Martha)

Soon we will see these devices get REALLY saucy with portable power and miniature designs that make the present offerings look like toys !! Soon, with one medium sized portable on one's belt or in one's purse--- they will have absolutely everything a person could possibly ever want or need in the way of personal communication and connection--- sound, video, telephone, internet, IM and Text messaging that will rival Star Wars and all in one device so powerful that it won't even need added smart cards or plug in's to do it all ----that's just the near future---stretch that out any at all and ________who the hell knows ????

One to soon hit the streets will be when this thing with the internet and phone services merging so that you'll be able to call a source personally and thump real time info back and forth similar to fax on the spot !!!

What comes next?

on a serious note, especially with the advent of Web 2.0 (AJAX, etc.), and according to major web and software companies -- with connection speed increasing every year, web sites being more visually stunning and all the only way is forward. let's look at it this way, a couple of years back, broadband connection was a luxury, nowadays almost everyone gets to connect to the internet using speeds up to 1MBps, and some even faster. Mobile networks providing 3G and HSDPA connections for cellphones. Major companies are now working on providing software through the Internet.

With AJAX, it is now possible to create websites that behaving more like full-blown softwares (i.e. Yahoo! Mail). Even our "beloved" Microsoft believes that in the future, we may be able to create documents, presentations, spreadsheets, etc. using the Internet, instead of having to install any application (I believe Google's also working on something right now).

So I'll say, what's next in the near future are web applications with features of full-blown softwares.
