I'm sorry, but what's so great about MySpace/Facebook/Bebo?

Now, don't get me wrong. I am no technophobe. I happen to have accounts on all three websites, but the problem is, I just don't see the big attraction. I can't comprehend why people can get literally hooked to these websites. I mean, who cares about friend requests or zombie legions or whatever? I mean, they're still your friends in the real world, so what's the big fuss about 'adding' them once again?

Don't misunderstand what I'm saying here - I get that they are all brilliant opportunities to catch up with old friends, find people you haven't spoken to in a while and have a casual chat, but I know so many people who would actually stop functioning without their MySpace, and I really cannot see the reason why.

Can anyone help me out?

Ok, let me answer this question first let me say, to the others below this remark of not having lives...that is not entirely true.

some have jobs or they are housewives and tend to having children. so yes they have lives. If you consider going out and clubbing and getting piss drunk a life then you are sadly mistaken.Well for Myspace I am too, a Myspace fan. I somehow think it is some type of addiction though. A lot of colleges are shutting down myspace from accessing public libraries and student service centers. and Libraries too are closing it down. It is so addicting of it's layouts it captivates humans in ways you can't seem to comprehend, the blogging is definitely good, you can write about whatever without the need of having to ever tell the person how you feel. It makes you look good. And not to mention the amount of friends you can make.

the only reason i have a myspace/facebook is to keep in touch with people i don't see on a regular basis

Yeah, I do like myspace because i use it in place of email, chat, etc, and it's a good way to communicate because all my friends have one. but i do find it strange that some people make myspace their whole lives...

so those people seriously have no life haha but i only go on for a bit to talk to friends and such

You are right, there is no need to get all or any of them. The IM can contact your close friends already. There is nothing great about these sites, and I don't have any of these and am very busy on keeping in touch with friends already. It is the way you prefer to contact your friends, don't worry about not using any of MySpace/Facebook/Bebo.....

I guess, people who are 'addicted' have no real social life outside of the online communities. Getting new friend requests, messages, comments, etc. give them something to look forward to, lol.

I check in twice a day in the mourning and at night I cant function with out it because that is how I talk to my dad most of the time. I talk to all my friends on there I dont use the phone. Plus that is the quickest way to get info about my baby out there so that I dont hae to call everyone and let them know whats going on they can just check there. I DONT add anyone less I know them personally I only have one person on there that I dont know and that is it I deny all the others. And my profile is set to private and I dont say anything to revieleing so its not like that.
